During World War II, There was a Unity in America that bonded ALL Americans together... united us as one. Families with soldiers proudly placed small flags and flag stickers in their front windows to honor those loved ones serving
in the military.
Groups of women volunteered to roll bandages, fill containers with personal items, including medicine, cigarettes, small candies, newspapers,
for soldiers serving on distant shores. Mothers prayed for their sons while sons prayed for their Mothers.
Fancy Handkerchief Holders were popular and always
located near a lady's dressing table; Handkerchiefs were the "finishing touch" for every well-dressed, classy lady.
Sometimes, soldiers received gifts from
volunteers just so they could send a personalized present to their mothers....like the one in this picture.
I'd love to know the story behind this particular
Handkerchief Holder from the forties. Never under-estimate the love and dedication-to- family felt by ALL Americans during WWII. WWII brought out "the best" in America and truly lived-up to its label.... "The Greatest Generation".
