TRUST NO ONE BUT GOD.

Here's a brief excerpt from my book: THE BEAUTY QUEEN, Let No Deed Go Unpublished.

After completing my journey of China’s Great Wall of China, my mother insisted on meeting me in Houston, Texas, when the plane carrying me back to America, landed at Houston’s Airport. She demanded that I cancel all future plans for TV interviews, meetings with publishers regarding book “deals”, and all paid speaking engagements honoring me as the first woman to travel the length of The Great Wall of China.  My mother insisted I come home with her immediately because she was alone and facing serious surgery.

It is important that you read my book to understand my mother, her constant demands, and her ability to destroy all my important  connections and every opportunity.

Her surgery was not serious.  It was another hip replacement and she hadn't needed or wanted me for the first replacement. It was another of her seriously-underhanded ploys.  Actually, it was her way to punish me for not “asking her permission” to travel The Great Wall!

Over the next six months, my mother successfully robbed me of every penny of my savings, my home, my connections with publishers and...with future employers. Almost one year after completing the first-ever journey of The Great Wall, no one was interested in me and my Great Wall Accomplishment; I was “OLD” news.   Timing is everything.

As soon as she had my entire savings in her pocket…more than fifty thousand dollars…she gave me 24 hours to “get out” of her house "or else".  In fact, she pulled my daddy's shotgun from under the bed, pointed it at me, and repeated her threat.  Knowing how evil she was, I had no choice but make preparation to leave her house by 8 AM the next morning. Sadly, I had no money and…no place to go:

The next morning at 5:00 am, I dressed to take a final run. With no money and no place to go, running was my only refuge from the stress of uncertainty. My mind kept jumping from one scenario to another while my feet, trained to run, moved me forward.

I was running past a church with a large cross in front when suddenly, out of the early morning shadows,  a black woman appeared,  waving both her arms-- high in the air. Looking at me, she hollered, “Hey, white lady, I need you to stop and help me with this money.” I was both stunned and frightened by the woman’s unexpected appearance but...I stopped.

Clutching a handful of dollar bills in one hand, the woman used the other hand to point out more dollar bills lying in a sunburst design at the foot of the church’s tall metal cross. Before I could say a word, the serious-looking woman began shoving dollar bills in my hand then turned to pick up more money.

For the first time I spoke out, asking the woman why she was standing barefoot on this particular morning in front of this particular Cross? Not once did she smile or initiate a conversation. She merely answered my question: “I live five blocks away and a few minutes ago, God woke me from a heavy sleep then told me to get out of bed and go to this Cross.”  She said God’s request sounded urgent so she grabbed her house dress and ran out the door; there wasn’t time to search for her shoes.

Trying to stay calm while piecing the mystery together, I kept asking for more details. Without emotion, the woman again-repeated what God had told her: “You will find money at the foot of the Cross and you are to share it with a white woman running toward you.”   Only a few minutes later, the black woman flagged me down.

I didn’t know if I was experiencing a mirage or a miracle.  When the stranger began walking away-- I reached out to touch her, to thank her for being God’s messenger.  She backed away and, without a word, disappeared in the shadows.

"Who can explain it--who can tell you why.  Fools give you reasons--wise men never try......"

PS…There’s much-more to this story.  A few minutes later, when I pulled out the money to count it (under a street light), I had 100 dollars….enough to feed me and my cats and buy gasoline.  Using that money I headed down the interstate, finally stopping in  a small park in Mississippi to rest, feed the cats, and consider my options.

Read my book, Read my story.  Only then will you understand why I don’t believe in coincidences.  By now you know that God leads me--- every day.
