My ex-nephew....once a stay-at-home dad... is someone I’ve known since birth. He is 3 months older than my oldest daughter; they graduated high school together. I baby-sat him when he was a baby, innocent and cute like all babies.

None of us is above making mistakes, choosing the wrong path, or losing our direction. BUT---When a male is arrested for child pornography and labeled a sex-offender, FORGIVENESS-- may not come easy. History has proved that FORGETTING--will be almost impossible.”

There is no evidence that pedophilia can be cured. Instead, most therapies focus on helping the pedophile refrain from acting on their desires. Some therapies do attempt to cure pedophilia, but there are no studies showing Pedophiles are able to change their sexual preference.

Pedophilia is not a sexual addiction, although pedophiles can be addicted to their form of sexual behavior and some of the most prolific child sex offenders have undoubtedly been sex addicts. The traditional treatment for pedophilia is Relapse Prevention, which is based on helping people identify—and develop coping skills for high-risk situations.

Psychiatrists say: “Pedophilia becomes a sexual disorder when it causes--- distress or interpersonal difficulty—or if the Pedophile acts on it”.   Then, PEDOPHILIA is listed as a  PARAPHILIA-- “a sexual impulse disorder characterized by intense arousal, urges, and behaviors that are considered deviant with respect to cultural norms".

Other familiar PARAPHILIA include Exhibitionism, Sadism, Voyeurism, and Frottereurism (a fancy name for the guy who rubs his penis against others on the subway). There are hundreds of different types of PARAPHILIA ranging from Abasiophilia (being sexually attracted to people with impaired mobility) to Zoosadism (being turned on by torturing animals).

Sexually-Speaking--It’s a weird world out there.   All sorts of people are into all sorts of things that are not of their choosing.

Try to imagine that you're a man whose sex drive is all about “fooling-around” with 5 or 6-year-old boys or girls?  How do you learn to live-- for the rest of your life—but never act on—this burning sexual need?!?!?? You go to a psychiatrist or some other mental health professional, right?  Sadly, that scenario seldom happens. Mandatory reporting laws require Mental Health Professionals to report anyone in therapy or counseling who could possibly be “at risk for” molesting a child.

I can’t imagine any husband who would tell his wife about such urges.  And…he’s certainly not going to go out for a few beers with the guys, after work, and say:  “Guys, I need to tell you that I’m sexually-aroused by young children but--- I feel guilty about it.”  A Pedophile isn’t going to reveal his shameful secret to anyone.

Historically, surgical castration was required of all men found guilty of Pedophilia. It eliminated sexual urges by drastically-removing the source of the problem. But, with the emergence of pharmacological methods of adjusting testosterone, surgical castration has become mostly- obsolete.  I noted that surgical castration is still performed in Germany, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, and a few states in the United States. Studies have reported that surgical castration is the most-successful solution in reducing recidivism among sex offenders.

Sex offenders, most-particularly those who lust after young children, cannot be rehabilitated. The disorder is “born” in them and no pill, no shot, no therapy, will eliminate their sexual urges.

In my opinion, Surgical Castration should be mandatory for all sex offenders.
