NEVER ASSUME YOUR HOUSE IS SAFE AND SECURE.
THIS EVENT HAPPENED IN 2016. It took place about five hours after Donald J. Trump had been declared the 45th President of the United States of America.
As Joe Friday from the mid-fifties Television Series, “DRAGNET” would say: “The facts Ma’am….just give us the facts.”
At 3:16 this morning, I was awakened from a deep sleep by my security panel’s robotic voice stating: “Security Breach—Basement Door Open.” Shaking violently but still alert, I grabbed my guns and called 911. In a few short minutes… it was SHOW TIME.
Earlier that afternoon, I had noted a strange car parked across the street from my house. It wasn’t directly in front of my house but farther down, about ten feet closer to the street corner. I took several photos from my window, watched and waited.
I found it odd that the car’s brake lights stayed on, as if the driver had his engine running, his foot on the brake, ready for a quick exit. The car’s dark windows were closed except for the driver’s window--which went up and down...every few minutes. I couldn’t see the driver but, several times, a black-gloved hand reached beyond the window, using what appeared to be a small camera. The very moment I decided to call the police, the car drove away. It was parked near my house for approximately fourteen minutes.
For years, I’ve been aware of everything around me--at all times. Actually, I never relax--regardless of where I live or work. I’ve had too many “close-calls” for too many years. I take nothing for granted and automatically take-stock of what I see and hear. I remember license plates, makes of cars, names and faces and--- all sorts of small-but-significant details.
Standing by the window, looking out at the beautiful Fall Weather, I wondered if I could be paranoid or--had my many stressful and threatening experiences simply fine-tuned my senses to recognize danger? It was only in those early morning hours that I remembered the unidentified car and quickly reminded myself…. there are no coincidences in my life.
At 3: 23 this morning, when I opened the door to a bevy of Police Officers, Sheriff’s Deputies, and SWAT Teams….it was one of the few times I wasn’t concerned about how I looked. Shaking with fear, I remember feeling a surge of strength and power when one of the uniformed men put his arm around me and said “Don’t worry, Ms. Miller, we’re here to protect you.”
It seems that “Prince Charming” has updated his “look” through the years. The Prince no longer rides a white horse and carries a red rose. Instead of roses, the many Prince Charmings who came to protect me in today’s early morning hours-- carried powerful weapons.
Watch-out, World. I'm confident that men in uniforms--- from Little Rock to Chicago-- from LA to DC-----will be respected once-again and allowed to do their jobs.
Yes, I love men…. especially men in uniforms with big weapons.
