I BELIEVE IN THE PHRASE--"IT WAS MEANT TO BE".

1958 WAS "MY YEAR". AT THE BEGINNING OF 1958, AS A SECOND YEAR VOICE MAJOR AT LINDENWOOD COLLEGE FOR WOMEN, I COMPETED FOR THE YOUNG ARTIST CONTEST IN THE AREA OF VOICE AND WON.

THE YOUNG ARTIST CONTEST WAS A DECADES-OLD EVENT WITH A HIGHLY-PROFESSIONAL STATUS. I FELT HONORED TO BE A WINNER. SEVERAL YEARS LATER...I RETURNED TO ST. LOUIS TO PERFORM WITH THE ST. LOUIS SYMPHONY.

THE SUMMER OF 1958, I BECAME A "BEAUTY QUEEN". FIRST-- BY COMPETING IN MY HOME TOWN'S FIRST MISS PINE BLUFF PAGEANT..AND WINNING THE TITLE: MISS PINE BLUFF, 1958.

SIX WEEKS LATER...I WON BOTH THE TALENT AND THE SWIMSUIT COMPETITIONS AT THE MISS ARKANSAS PAGEANT AND A PANEL OF OUT-OF-STATE JUDGES SELECTED ME TO BE MISS ARKANSAS, 1958.

SEPTEMBER OF 1958...I SPENT ONE WEEK IN ATLANTIC CITY, NEW JERSEY, COMPETING IN THE MISS AMERICA PAGEANT. I FINISHED IN THE TOP TEN...AND WAS INVITED TO RETURN TO THE PAGEANT, THE NEXT YEAR, AS ONE OF THE PAGEANT'S FEATURED ENTERTAINERS.

NEVER UNDER-ESTIMATE LIFE'S POSSIBILITIES.
